ONE YEAR CLASS:
This is not just an art class, but also a writing course. Students will be required to write a 5-10 page short story. This story must have a well described world/setting, a protagonist and antagonist. The focus is not for the story to be perfect but instead work as a foundation for developing their ideas visually into art. While the students write their stories they will also be expected to start developing concept art. In this class we will study figure drawing, proportions, color theory, and cohesive storytelling within art. Students will be encouraged to draw landscapes, their characters, buildings, and objects from their fictional worlds and this serves as the foundation of their concept art. After they have completed this the students will choose 3 scenes from their short story and properly format, label, and draw professional level storyboards. This will help the students understand the professional process in the creative industry and see how some of their favorite movies, TV shows, and animations were all once words on a page, and how they too can turn them into visual scenes. As their final assignment students will be tasked with pitching their story concepts to their peers in class, and must present their finished storyboards.
