ONE YEAR CLASS:
Recommended for 10-12th graders, in this class, students will be reviewing what’s in the weekly News and learn to use critical thinking from a Christian worldview to dissect and research a variety of topics and current events. A healthy discussion between high school students enables them to broaden their understanding of the context of information besides just reading the information. Instead of believing what they are spoon-fed from what may be the popular view, students will be challenged to create their point of view on these topics as it relates to their lives in Christ. Each week the students will be given a section of the newspaper to fully read. Reading of newspapers also enhances vocabulary skills and encourages research. There will be homework assignments given with the newspaper and a documentary to watch each week, then the students will give presentations and have guided class discussions about what they learned. They will put together a weekly portfolio containing their thoughts and research of the topics of their choosing that they will keep and also be able to display at Open House.
