ONE-YEAR CLASS – Continuation for Spring Semester – New students are welcome to join this class with equivalent 2nd year ASL knowledge
(Prerequisite: Completion and passing grade in ASL 1)
This course will challenge students to continue in their knowledge of ASL, expanding their use of language, knowledge of Deaf Culture, and executing proper ASL grammar. Students will grow their ASL vocabulary and use their knowledge from in-class assignments to properly communicate to the Deaf outside of the classroom. Students will be required to step out of their comfort zone and record monthly video assignments on various subjects from in-class lectures, expanding their understanding of American Sign Language and the Deaf. Students will be required to attend two Deaf Events per semester to gain experience with Deaf people. Tests, projects, research assignments, video assignments, and homework will all contribute to the student’s knowledge of ASL. This is a silent class, in which students must wear earplugs and use ASL as a means of communicating. Lectures, projects, and in-class activities will all be done in ASL. This course fulfills the requirement for the second year of foreign language for high school students.
