ONE YEAR CLASS (Prerequisite: Must have taken and passed Algebra 1):
Geometry, though in the family of Math, is actually a study of logic, engaging students to think critically and sequentially. The Teaching Textbooks approach to geometry is based on a traditional Euclidean study, introducing logic and reasoning, and then proceeding through all of the lessons by presenting concepts as definitions, postulates, and theorems. Geometry, as a study of logic, focuses on shapes and incorporates algebra as it applies to them. Teaching Textbooks is outstanding not only because it puts an emphasis on problems found on the SAT and ACT exams, but it uses a review method that causes students to become stronger at solving day by day.” Class times will focus on previewing weekly lessons, doing practice problems and reinforcing the logical tools necessary to step through proofs. Homework will be assigned and must be completed on paper and corrected by parent each week to receive homework credit. There will also be at home tests and occasional in-class quizzes to assess student’s comprehension and mastery.
